I expected just a little more from this hotel. Myself and husband booked a executive suite for our wedding anniversary . The standard of the room was good but i could not believe you had to request slippers ! when they did arrive they were just left on the bed in their wrapping. The tissue box had two tissues in it (standards ) The breakfast was good the service was not the lady on the desk took us through and we were pointed out the cold food and hot food !!! A little bit better service here would have been nice. We are used to top class service nothing over the top just attention to detail ! and a smile would not go a miss. The best welcome and smile we received was from a lovely housekeeping lady. I also do feel the Hotel really should revamp their door request messages here is the one i feel really does show their idea of not going that extra mile for their customers it says: Sorry but would you mind cleaning my room ? Thanks very much. Appreciate it ( Sorry) Please tidy my room! I mean who did really come up with this ??? We have travelled the world and stayed at some fantastic hotels never before have we come across a message like this , its almost liking begging them to do their job.... get rid of it.
Was looking to stay at either The Grand Hotel or The York Principal...we chose the Principal and so glad that we did!! Beautiful open lobby, very kind and courteous staff, management was awesome & breakfast was nice. We had a suite on floor 1 with a view of York Minster, I strongly recommend it.

Fantastic venue, quietly nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Very well looked after town House hotel with boutique finish. The welcome from the team was really nice and they accommodated our need for a taxi by taking us themselves, as demand for taxis high due to York races being on. Sparkling room, comfortable bed and great shower, plenty of tea and coffee and milk where most places let you down. Wonderful breakfast served in the dining room, great choice and quality food items. Next time we will definitely done at Adam Jackson's in house restaurant, the tasting menu looks outstanding! All in all a fantastic venue, with fabulous service and great facilities. Thank you
Just had a lovely overnight stay in Mar marked. Such a lovely hotel. The room was large, comfortable and had a 4 poster bed. We can't fault the hotel.the staff were helpful and our breakfast delicious. Only fault was someone trying to charge their drinks to our room. Pleased the man on reception remembered serving us something completely different.totally recommended

Lovely hotel with free car parking, which seems to be a rarity in York. Located about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the City, which is ideal if you fancy getting some light exercise. Free water and warm beverages for the duration of your stay and an excellent cooked breakfast in the morning. Bar and light meals service is available, but the menu is a limited. We had a good sized room, large double bed and en-suite, the only downside was that there are no picturesque views. All round good place to stay if you're visiting the area.
Really great place to stay. Location is ideal only 10/mins from the centre and in a nice quiet street. Staff were very nice and the room was good. Only criticisms are that the shower didn't have much pressure and the cooked breakfast was limited if you are a vegetarian allergic to eggs. But the breakfast buffet was nice and sufficient. The coffee machine and bottled water available all day is great.

Great food good beers and friendly staff make thid an ideal choice. The pub is one of the oldest in York sporting some wonderful interiors and is a large easily accessible collection of linked buildings. Nice outdoor area and garden. The menu choice is wide are good selection of ales and bitters as well as the usual wines and spirits. Highly recommended for a drink and food. Only criticism would be TVs in some areas unessential. Great place!
Classy pub in York, close to the shambles in the old part of the city. Historical building, very cozy atmosphere. They had a couple of gas fireplaces on when we arrived. Great service, slightly expensive, small portions but quality food and drink available. You can't go wrong bring family, friends or a date here for a treat. Beautifully decorated for period, they have a patio out front and a smoking lounge out the side.

All 3 times I've been there has been some sort of live music which is great for a small pub. Has a really cost feel to it and the staff are all good. The beer selection is really good they have lots of wacky choices on tap.
This used to be our 'go to' after a day out in York. However I think the York Tap is better. This is still a good place although it does get very busy. There's around 6 real ales to try. We managed to get a seat on Saturday around 18:00 although it was very busy even then. I can still recommend this place.
Royal Oak Inn, 18 Goodramgate, York YO1 7LG, UK – 01904 628869
A traditional hostelry with an ancient, yet comfortable feeling, a convenient location for the city centre, York Minster and other city centre attraction and only 5 minutes walk from the market and main shopping area. There's a warm welcome, with a friendly smile. The prices were excellent and the lunchtime meal offer this week (just short of £8) included a beer, or soft drink. Wine was at a supplement. The meal was an excellent pub standard, and the host didn't bat an eyelid when we asked to change items on the standard menu (for health reasons new potatoes rather than chips, for taste reasons, cooked veg rather than peas). The puddings were excellent too (and spoilt our attempt at healthy eating - but worth it!). If you're looking for a pub for a lunchtime meal on a quick trip to York, with a pleasant ambiance, this is the place to be. It's good in the evenings too, with live music many nights of the week, and an equally hospitable atmosphere. I will certainly return.
I went for Sunday roast and it didn't disappoint. The food was great and the portions were generous. Large range of gin. Great prices and the atmosphere and decoration is top notch. Staff were very good.

York Holiday Homes is THE place for top notch York accommodations! I have stayed in at least 7 of their properties over 17 years and all were wonderful. I have my favorites, for two people it’s Lavender Cottage, for more it’s #1 Turks Head Ct, but all were ones I’d happily stay in again. Besides great properties and terrific locations, there is also the top notch office staff who are friendly, competent, and accessible and who will make booking, arrival, and departure a piece of cake! The likewise friendly and terrific housekeeping staff presents you with a sparkling “home from home” that includes fresh flowers and a tea tray complete with biscuits. Fresh milk in the fridge needs only pouring into the milk pitcher. Aahhh, now I’m homesick. York Holiday Homes is truly a gem in the very special city of York. I love walking to the Minster, the Treasurers House gardens, the shops, and the other special sights; the YHH properties make them all easily reached by foot. It’s like living in a well-appointed village where you step out the door of your charming home and wander to your heart’s content. I live in the US and have traveled widely and enjoyed many places; York Holiday Homes and the city of York are at the top of my “favorites” list.
Mulberry Cottage is an ideal holiday home, close to the centre of York yet so peaceful and quiet. It has everything you require for a stress free break, even a little sheltered garden to chill out after a busy day touring the many attractions available in the city.

Absolutely first class. Short walk to the Minster through some lovely old streets. Large car park adjacent. The apartments are beautifully furnished and decorated with all the comforts you will need. We loved it and have booked again for a stay later on in the year. Great memories.
Very nicely appointed and spacious apartments here, just outside the York city wall, with a view of York Minster. If I was visiting York again, and I shall, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else! Perfect location with just a two minute walk into the most interesting parts of the city. Parking is just outside, reasonably priced!

Lovely well equipped apartment within walking distance of York's many attractions and the luxury of a parking space.

Lovely comfy bed, large walk in shower, tick sheet for breakfast (excellent idea - ok with cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast) The check in was most odd tho. There was an envelope with my name on, on the wall. Inside were instructions how to use the keypad and information as to where my bedroom door key could be found. As I'd no info re breakfast time, I'd to ring the tel number. That was the only time I spoke to anyone until breakfast. Everything was fine, but it was a very strange system. Perhaps it's the way things are now 😀😀
Great location to city centre. Very clean room. Great amenities. Fabulous breakfast. Very welcoming hosts.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Great CL caravan site. Excellent location close to A19. Friendly owners. Hard standing pitches. I chose this caravan site due to good reviews about the cleanliness of the shower and toilet facilities and they were absolutely spotless. Site is very well located, close to York with easy access. I very much recommend and hope to visit again soon.
Lovely small site. All you need for basic camping. Good price too.
Millfield Ln, Nether Poppleton, York YO26 6NX, UK – 01904 784306
Fantastic campsite with a very friendly and helpful owner Martin, no showers or toilet's here though which is advertised so you need to use your van also very close and on the bus route to York and walking distance to the pubs and shops in Poppleton.
Love this site, the owners are helpful, friendly, the site is beautifully kept. We have been many times and will continue to do so.
Willow House Caravan Park, Wigginton Road, Wigginton YO32 2RH, UK – 07713 194299
Great little glamping place, excellent for couples and for large groups (like ours) it was perfect. Highlights: super comfy bed, very quiet area, lots of room in the pod for two, lovely veranda and great Communal area with BBQ, for pit and fridges. Lowlight: slightly damp smelling (but clean) shower rooms. (I think a squeegee would be better than a mop) all round great place and would definitely recommend and return!
Fab break away and real nice bed and bedding . Defo be goin back
